La mayoría de los residuos estan contaminados con petróleo, carbón, azufre, etc. Estos elementos tienen que ser tratados primero.
Conversión de residuos de bajo contenido de carbono en materia prima para la Química- V. Los residuos son tratados de una manera pirometalúrgica. Los resultados son níquel mate y escoria-V, que será lixiviado. Después de la separación líquida/sólida los químicos Vanadio son precipitados, y luego son refinados a través de la calcinación/reducción para fabricar otros productos.
Se utiliza Hidrometalurgia para la conversión de los catalizadores de baja emisión de carbono que contienen vanadio, en Vanadate de amonio (Amoniummetavanadate), Acido hidratado de Molibdeno y en una aleación acumulativa que contiene Aluminiumoxid, Níquel y Cobalto
Se utiliza la Hidrometalurgia para la conversión de los catalizadores de baja emisión de carbono, sin vanadio, en paramolibdato de amonio, óxido de aluminio y en una solución de cobalto y níquel.
